Noch zittert fort der Zweig am Busch
Ach! nach der Jugend Glück;
Mit all der Lust, dem süßen Schmerz
Wer bringt's, wer bringt's zurück?

The twig upon the bush is still trembling
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
The twig upon the bush is still trembling,
A birdlet has flown away,
And conceals itself deep in the forest, whoosh!
Only from far away a tone still sounds.
The blossoms fall upon the ground,
Snow-white they are lying everywhere,
And hark! it grows so quiet all around,
Every sound has died away. --
Thus yearns, thus yearns and queries the heart,
Ah! after the happiness of youth;
With all its joy, with its sweet pain,
Who shall bring it, who shall bring it back?
