Le temps des Saintes

Au temps où les Saintes vivaient,
Ô ma soeurette, elles avaient
Ton pauvre petit corps plein d'âme;
Et dans leurs yeux comme en tes yeux,
Rayonnaient d'une double flamme
Toutes les étoiles des cieux.

En ce temps, leurs larmes divines,
Comme les sources des ravines,
Abreuvaient les coeurs desséchés...
Ces pleurs, qui fécondaient les pierres,
Ces pleurs, qui lavaient les péchés,
Toujours tremblent à tes paupières!

Et, tant que tes yeux pleureront,
Tant que tes lèvres souriront,
Je croirai que, dans les cieux calmes,
S'ouvre un magique paradis 
Où circulent avec des palmes
Les belles Saintes de jadis.
