Ja darum rief dich Gott in's Leben
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Ja darum rief dich Gott in's Leben,
Daß du mein Leben seist fortan,
Mit deiner Huld du mögst umweben
Und mir verklären jede Bahn!
Und darum wollt' er dir bewahren
Den Odem, Kind, so väterlich,
Daß treu du wie die Engelschaaren
Mögst flehen Tag und Nacht für mich!

Ja darum hat mit aller Wonne
Beschenkt er dich an Leib und Geist,
Daß du mein Kleinod, meine Sonne,
Mein Glück und mein Entzücken seist,
Und darum lehrt' er, Kind, dich singen
Aus Herzensgrunde, hell und klar,
Daß wir im Lied' ihm mögen bringen
Vereint des Dankes Opfer dar!

Yes, for this reason God created you
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Yes, for this reason God created you,
That you could henceforth be my life,
That you might weave your benevolence about me
And transfigure every pathway for me!
  And therefore may He protect
Your life, child, with such fatherly care
That, faithful as the host of angels, you might
Plead for me day and night!

Yes, for this reason He showered upon you
All delightfulness of body and spirit,
That you might be my treasure, my sun,
My happiness and my rapture,
And for this reason He taught you, child, to sing
Brightly and clearly from the depths of your heart,
So that, united, we might bring to him
[Our] offerings of gratitude!
