by Victor August Eberhard Blüthgen (1844 - 1920)

Schweigende Liebe
Language: German (Deutsch)
Der Vogel singt's in Blättergrün,
wofür sein Herz zu klein und enge:
o dass ich's dürfte also kühn
hinjubeln in der Welt Gedränge!

Ich darf nicht einmal wagend gehn
und vor Dir sinken auf die Knie,
und heimlich Dir das Wort gestehn:
Von Herzen lieb' ich Dich!

Wohn könnt' ich lachen über Grab
und Unglücksblitz und Kerkergitter
doch die man Preis dem Spotte gab,
verschmähte Lieb' ist bitter, bitter!

Und scheu verwisch' ich jede Spur,
wie mir die Brust im Tiefsten glühe,
und leise, leise denk' ich nur:
Von Herzen lieb' ich Dich!
