So hell und freundlich drein
Sah noch der letzte Strahl vom Abendschein.

  Ach! so im tiefsten Grund
Und alle Zeit und Stund
Bis zu dem letzten Ziel
Macht mich getrost und froh mein Saitenspiel.

Oh, how the sky smiles!
So brightly and amiably the last beam
Of the evening glow still gazed down.

  Ah! thus in the deepest depths
And at all times and hours
Until I reach the final goal, the music I make 
Upon my stringed instrument makes me confident and happy.
