L'attesa vana
Language: Italian (Italiano)
Available translation(s): ENG

The futile wait
Language: English  after the Italian (Italiano)
Evening has fallen and you have not come,
And darkness has populated
The pine grove with strange specters.
Why have you not come?
I have waited for you all day at the edge of the forest,
Giving a start at every wingbeat,
At every rustle of timid lizards,
And in my heart bloomed a sweet madrigal,
And a soothing hope [was] revived,
And a fire in my blood burned more intensely.
How long, with my soul extended
Far away, far away,
Have I [watched for] your arrival on the white path?
Now it is already night, and in vain my eye
Tries to search in the deep darkness.
Why have you not come?
