Es destilliert aus Studien und Gedanken
Vielvieler Jahre spät ein alter Mann
Sein Alterswerk, in dessen krause Ranken
Er spielend manche süße Weisheit spann.

Hinstürmt voll Glut ein eifriger Student,
Der sich in Büchereinen und Archiven
Viel umgetan und den der Ehrgeiz brennt,
Ein Jugendwerk voll genialischer Tiefen.

Es sitzt und bläst ein Knabe in den Halm,
Er füllt mit Atem farbige Seifenblasen,
Und jede prunkt und lobpreist wie ein Psalm,
All seine Seele gibt er hin im Blasen.

Und alle drei, Greis, Knabe und Student,
Erschaffen aus dem Maya-Schaum der Welten
Zaubrische Träume, die an sich nichts gelten,
In welchen aber lächelnd sich erkennt
Das ewige Licht, und freudiger entbrennt.

Bombolles de sabó

Tardanament, d’estudis i pensaments
de fa moltíssims anys, un ancià destil·la
la seva vella obra, en els crespats circells de la qual,
ell filà mantes dolces savieses.

Colpit, ple de fervor, un aplicat estudiant,
que anà molt a la recerca en biblioteques i arxius,
i a qui crema l’ambició, produeix
una obra de joventut plena de genials profunditats.

Un noiet seu a la palla i bufa,
amb el seu alè fa acolorides bombolles de sabó,
i cadascuna brilla i glorieja com un salm,
en el bufar hi posa tota la seva ànima.

I tots tres, ancià, noiet i estudiant
de l’escuma Maya dels mons creen somnis màgics
que en si mateixos no són res, però en els quals, somrient,
la llum eterna s’hi reconeix i s’abranda més joiosa.
