Weit über dem Meere Erins Schimmer verblich,
doch wo du bist, Geliebte, ist Erin für mich!
In der Fremde bist du mir Heimat, mein Kind,
und dein Aug meine Wonne, wo immer wir sind!
 
Ins Dunkel der Wüste, zum Felsengestad,
wo nicht wild und höhnisch der Fremdling uns naht,
will ich fliehn mit dir, denn Sturmwinds Ton
ist nicht so rauh als der Feind, den wir flohn!
