by Friedrich Wilhelm Weber (1813 - 1894)

Deiner Worte, greiser Prior
Language: German (Deutsch)
"Deiner Worte, greiser Prior,
Auch nicht eines ging verloren,
Klagst du gleich, der träge Schüler
Lausche dir nur mit den Ohren.

Jedes hab' ich wohl verstanden
Und erwogen tief im Herzen:
Greiser Prior, statt des Trostes
Brachtest du mir Not und Schmerzen;

Statt des Glaubens bange Zweifel,
Statt der Ruhe irres Schwanken;
Immer jagend, immer fragend,
Schweifen unstet die Gedanken;

Gleichwie sturmgetriebne Tauben,
Fern den heimatlichen Buchen,
Zwischen See und Himmel flattern
Und umsonst ein Eiland suchen.

Pfadlos sind die blauen Lüfte,
Ratlos bin ich selbst und müde;
Was ich suche, was ich sehne,
Ist nicht Glück, nur Friede, Friede!"
