Das ist ein Wandern, wenn der Schnee
Der Alpenberge kühl erglänzt,
Indes der erste blaue See
Italiens schon die Sicht begrenzt!

Durch Höhenwind und herbe Luft
Weht eine süße Ahnung her
Von violettem Ferneduft
Und südlich übersonntem Meer.

Und weiter sehnt das Auge sich
Zum hellen Florentiner Dom
Und träumt nach jedem Hügelstrich
Aufsteigend das beglänzte Rom.

Schon formt die Lippe unbewußt
Der fremden schönen Sprache Laut,
Indes ein Meer verklärter Lust
Dir schauernd warm entgegenblaut.

És una bona caminada quan la neu
de les muntanyes alpines resplendeix gèlida,
dementre el primer llac blau
d'Itàlia ja s’albira al límit de la vista!

A través del vent dels cims i de l'aire aspriu
arriba una dolça premonició
d’un perfum llunyà de violetes
i del mar del sud banyat pel sol.

I més enllà, els ulls anhelen la vista 
de la brillant catedral de Florència
i somien, darrere cada serralada de tossals,
dreçar-se la ciutat resplendent de Roma.

Ja, sense adonar-se'n, els llavis formen
els sons de la bella llengua estrangera,
mentre un mar de delit transfigurat,
blau, se t’apropa tremolant càlidament.
