Alles findet Ruh' und Rast
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
  Alles findet Ruh' und Rast,
Nur die Liebe nimmer;
Freudig stets mit neuer Hast
Müht sie fort sich immer.
  Froher nur in Leid und Noth
Streut sie ihren Segen,
Und wie lächelt noch im Tod
Mild sie dir entgegen!

  Alles Wissen, alles Thun
Wird ein End' erlangen;
Glaub' und Hoffnung mögen ruhn
Nach dem letzten Bangen:
  Liebe nur, die rastet nicht
Auch im Himmel droben,
Wird erst in dem reinsten Licht
Einst an's Ziel erhoben.

Everything finds rest and peace
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
  Everything finds rest and peace,
Only love never [does so];
Joyfully, with ever new haste,
It always labours on.
  In sorrow and misery it only
Strews its blessing the more happily,
And how, even in death,
It gently smiles toward you!

  All knowledge, all activity
Shall reach an end;
Faith and hope may come to rest
After the last anxiety:
  Only love never rests
Even in Heaven above,
Only in that purest light
Shall it someday be lifted to its goal.
