by Karl Stieler (1842 - 1885)

In Regenstunden
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Der Regen fiel, der Tag war grau,
Wir sind am Sims gesessen;
Wir haben so viel Leid bedacht
Und so viel Leid vergessen.

Die kleine Stube war so still,
Die feinen Mücken summten;
Wir sah'n empor und sah'n hinab,
Wir sprachen und verstummten ...

Du standest auf und sahst hinaus
In all' den grauen Regen;
Du bebtest leis -- da war dein Arm
Auf meinem Hals gelegen.

Und flehend sprach dein stummer Blick:
"Ich weiß es, wie ich fehle!"
Du küßtest mich -- das war kein Kuß -
Das war die große Seele!
