Gleich Harmodios und Aristogeiton,
       Als vor ihnen hinsank der Tyrann,
   Und als sie gleich und frei wieder Athen gemacht.

Nicht, Harmodios, starbst Du, Vielgeliebter!
Auf der Seligen Inseln setzt das Lied Dich,
      Wo Achilleus dort, stürmisch im Lauf,
   Und der Tydeische Sproß Diomedes wohnt.

Tragen will ich in Myrtengrün mein Schlachtschwert
Gleich Harmodios und Aristogeiton,
      Als an Pallas hochheiligem Fest
   Sie den Tyrannen Hipparchos erlegeten.

Stets wird Ruhm Euch auf Erden, Vielgeliebte,
Blühn, Harmodios und Aristogeiton !
      Da vor Euch dahinsank der Tyrann,
   Und da Ihr gleich und frei wieder Athen gemacht.
