Tragen will ich das Schwert in Myrtenzweigen 
Wie Harmodios und Aristogiton,
Da von ihrer Hand siel der Tyrann 
Und sie der Stadt Athen Freiheit und Recht erkämpft. 

Nicht gestorben bist du, Harmodios, Theurer; 
Auf der Seligen Flur, so singt man, weilst du,
Wo Achill der schnellfüßige Held 
Und Diomed mit ihm wandelt, des Tydeus Sohn. 

Tragen will ich das Schwert in Myrtenzweigen
Wie Harmodios und Aristogiton,
Da an Pallas' hochheiligem Fest 
In des Hipparchos Brust kühn sie das Schwert gebohrt. 

Stets wird euer Gerücht auf Erden wohnen,
O Harmodios und Aristogiton, 
Daß von eurer Hand fiel der Tyrann, 
Daß ihr der Stadt Athen Freiheit und Recht erkämpft.
