by (Johann) Eduard Dössekel (1810 - 1890)

Sternentrost
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Still ist die Nacht,
Die Pappel wiegt sich sacht,
Die Glocke schlägt, das Bächlein rauscht,
Die Wachtel grüßt, die Liebe lauscht.
Es wogt mein Schmerz;
Verwundet Herz,
O blute blute nimmermehr,
So friedlich ist die Nacht und hehr.
O all ihr Sterne weit und breit,
O uferlose Ewigkeit,
Was ist doch alles Erdenweh?
Es kommt und schmilzt wie Märzenschnee!

Confirmed with Gedichte von Eduard Dössekel, Bern: Verlag von Jent und Reinert, 1851, page 64.
