Der Freuden beut die Erde viel, 
Und aller Freuden Grund und Ziel 
  Ist ewiglich die Liebe! 
Manch Leid fällt dir daneben zu, 
O drum nur, daß erfahrest du, 
  Wie trösten mag die Liebe! 

Und wenn sie ward dein schönes Theil, 
Vergiß es nicht, du dankst solch Heil 
  Nur deines Gottes Liebe! 
O ihm nur opfre brünstger Weis 
Tagtäglich Ehre, Lob und Preis 
  Für alles Glück der Liebe! 

Und daß sie bleib' und nimmer end, 
Zu ihm erhebe Herz und Händ, 
  Der selber ist die Liebe!
Und reicher stets wird frisch und hell
Dir fließen aus dem ewgen Quell, 
  O Wonne! Lieb' um Liebe!

This world offers us many joys

This world offers us many joys,
And the basis and goal of all joys 
  Is eternally [only] love!
Many a sorrow comes to you as well,
Oh, only so that you may realize
  How love can comfort you!

And if love has become a beautiful portion for you,
Do not forget, you owe such a blessing
  Solely to the love of your God!
Oh, most fervently offer only to Him daily
Honour, glory, and praise
  For all the happiness of love!

And that [love] may remain and never end,
Lift your heart and hands to Him
  Who Himself is love!
And from the eternal well-spring
Shall flow ever more abundantly, fresh and bright,
  Oh bliss, love upon love!
