Note: this text first appeared in 1815 in Souvenir des Ménestrels with the music of Quinebaux under the title "L'Abandon"; in 1819 under the title "Romance"; in 1832 under the title of "Plaintes" in Nouveau keepsake pour 1832; and in 1842 under the title "Le Hameau" in Poésies (Paris, Charpentier).
