Der Bergwald im Frühling
Language: German (Deutsch)
Kristallner Bach,
O halte Wach
Vor meinem lieben Walde!
Hüt' ihm den Traum,
Du Blüthenbaum,
Hoch ragend an der Halde!
Den Sonnenschein
Nur laßt hinein,
Des Mondes Silberstrahlen!
Wie werden hold
Des Dankes Sold
Mit aller Pracht sie zahlen!
Den Sänger auch
Nach altem Brauch
Laßt durch die Büsche dringen,
Daß froher Weis'
Er neuen Preis
Mag seinem Walde bringen!

The mountain forest in springtime
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Crystalline brook,
Oh keep watch
By my dear forest!
Protect its dream,
You blossoming tree,
Towering upon the acclivity!
Permit only sunshine
To enter,
[And] the silvery beams of the moon!
How beautifully
Shall they pay the debt
Of gratitude with all their splendour!
The singer, too,
After the old custom,
Let break through the shrubs,
So that in joyful melody
He may bring new praise
To his forest!
