Seliger Sterne schimmernde Scharen
Schweben so ferne, blinken so schön;
Aber in blauenden Nächten, in klaren,
Gleiten sie leise von einsamen Höh’n.

Stürzen, von siegender Sehnsucht getrieben,
Jäh durch der Welten unendlichen Raum
Nieder und weben ihr leuchtendes Lieben
Ein in der Blüten keuschen Traum.

Doch wenn im Osten der Tag sich rötet,
Müssen zurück sie, verblichen und matt …
Sahst du denn niemals noch ein verspätet
Sternlein hangen am Rosenblatt? —
