Geharnischt reit ich von euch: verschliesset hinter mir die Tore.
Der Morgen loht: es flammt von meinem Speer.
Die Sonne spiegelt bald in meiner blanken Wehr.
Blickt mir nach von weithin schauender Empore.

An dem Hügel, der das Tal verbirgt, zurück
darf ich noch einmal wenden mein gehelmtes Haupt,
von der alten Linde brech ich mir ein weisserblühtes Stück.
Die Heimat lässt mich los ! Ich hätt es nie geglaubt.
