Treustes Herz, und willst du scheiden
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Treustes Herz, und willst du scheiden,
Fort in fremde Lande gehn,
Ach, wie muß nunmehr uns Beiden
Herbes Weh und Leid geschehn!
  Aber ist es Gottes Wille,
Ihm denn sei's anheimgestellt,
Und so laß' ich muthig stille
Ziehn dich in die weite Welt.

Wo der Himmel nur mag blauen,
Gott wird mit und bei dir sein,
Tag und Nacht wird auf dich schauen,
Der nicht schläft, noch schlummert ein.
Auf dem Lande, auf dem Meere
Wird er sein dein sichrer Stern,
Deine Wache, deine Wehre,
Nun so zieh mit Gott, dem Herrn!

Und auch ich zum fernen Strande
Finde wohl den Weg oft hin,
Wenn vom lieben Heimathlande
Meine Seufzer zu dir ziehn;
  Wenn ich deiner muß gedenken
Vor dem Herrn mit heißem Flehn,
Daß er gnädig möge schenken
Uns ein frohes Wiedersehn.

Most faithful heart, and if you wish to depart
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Most faithful heart, and if you wish to depart,
To go off into foreign lands,
Ah, how for the two of us henceforth
There must be bitter pain and sorrow!
  But it is God's will,
So let it be commended to Him,
And thus courageously, silently I let you
Travel off into the wide world.

Wherever the sky may shine blue,
God shall be with and beside you,
Day and night shall look [down] upon you
He how does not sleep nor slumber.
Upon the land, upon the sea
He shall be your sure star,
Your guard, your defense,
Now go then with God, the Lord!

And I, too, shall often find my way
To the distant shore,
When my sighs travel to you
From the dear homeland;
When I must think of you
Before the Lord with fervent pleas,
That He might mercifully grant us
A joyful reunion.
