Ik ben in eenzaamheid niet meer alleen,
Want waar mijn blikken langs de wanden dwalen,
Schemert uw lach daarheen, ontelbre malen
Hoor ik in't klokgetik uw voeten treen.

En langzaam nadert gij zoo ver zoo kleen.
`K zie dat een breede neevlenkring met valen
Lichtloozen sluier u omhult, dan dalen
Zachtkens uw lichte schreden naar mij heen.

Uw adem vaart mij aan, gij zijt verschenen,
Ik zie uw oogen in mijn oogen gaan.
`K Hoor in den wind, die langs de ruiten henen
En door de schouwe klaagt, uw woorden aan,
Zoo vrees'lijk droef en teer, dat `k u zie staan
Met bukkend hoofd om in mijn arm te weenen.
