Des Liedes Heimath
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
  Wie Lerchensang im Sturme
Hoch ob dem öden Ried,
Wie Glockenhall im Thurme
Verklang, verklang mein Lied!
  Verrauscht nach allen Winden
War Freude gleich und Schmerz,
Bis Gott mich dich ließ finden,
Du treustes, treustes Herz!

  Nun schließ' ich ohne Wanken
Dir auf der Seele Grund;
Die heiligsten Gedanken,
Wie mach' ich froh sie kund!
  Und halt' ich dich umwunden,
Wie rauscht und strömt mein Sang:
Mein Lied ja hat gefunden
Die Heimath lebenslang!

Confirmed with Liederbuch von Friedrich Oser, 1842-1874. Mit einem biographischen Verzeichnis der Componisten, Basel: Benno Schwabe, Verlagsbuchhandlung, 1875, page 205.

My song's homeland
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
  Like lark-song in the storm
High above the desolate reeds,
Like the sound of bells in the tower
My song died away, died away!
  Dissipated immediately at the whim of all the winds
Was joy and pain,
Until God let me find you,
You most faithful, most faithful heart!

  Without faltering, I now lock
My holiest thoughts
To the depths of your soul;
How joyfully I proclaim them!
  And when I hold you embraced,
How my singing rushes and streams forth:
For my song has found
Its lifelong home!
