Sehnsucht
Language: German (Deutsch)
Überall
in dem All,
mag ich liegen oder stehen,
mag ich ruhen oder gehen,
immer die Geliebte seh'.

Wonnig mild
steigt ihr Bild,
mag ich träumen oder wachen,
mag ich weinen oder lachen,
vor den Augen in die Höh'.

Ist sie fern
immer gern
eilt mein Herz sie zu belauschen,
Liebeswonnen einzutauschen
in der heissgeliebten Näh'.

Ist sie nah,
ist sie da,
sink ich flehend vor ihr nieder,
singe neue Liebeslieder,
sing von meines Herzens Weh'!

Zög sie dann
mich heran,
würd' ich feurig sie umfassen,
nimmer eher von ihr lassen,
bis ich selber einst vergeh'!

Everywhere, far and near
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Ev'rywhere,
Far and near,
Whether resting, wether walking,
Whether musing, wether talking,
Nought but my belov'd I see.

'Mid the air,
mild and fair,
Whether waking, whether sleeping,
Whether laughing, whether weeping,
Still that form appears to me.

Far away
Should she stay,
Then t'wards her my heart were hasting,
Love's extatic raptures tasting,
Near in thought tho' distant we.

When she's nigh,
Blest am I,
While before her humbly kneeling,
Songs gush forth my woes revealing,
In a flow of melody.

Should my strain
Melt her then,
On my heart I'd fondly press her,
Cling to her, nor cease to bless her,
Till life's latest spark should flee.
