Ich grüße dich, du wunderbarer Duft,
Der sich in diesen zarten Kelchen wieget,
Du Schiff, worin durch dunkelblaue Luft
Die Seel' entzückt nach fernen Ufern flieget.

Das Steuer ist ein alter, alter Traum
Von andern Zeiten, himmelschönen Auen,
Gold ist der königlichen Ströme Schaum
Und hohe, schlanke Palmen sind zu schauen.

Die Lotosblume schwimmt auf blauer Flut,
Die Welle scheint mit holder Scham zu fragen,
Welch Wunder ihr im keuschen Schoße ruht?
Doch nur die Kinder wissen es zu sagen.
