Der Himmel treibt silberige Kegel
Voll reinsten Lichts die Wasser durch.
Flink reffen wir die grauen Segel
Und hinter uns bleibt Frauenburg:
Die Märchenstadt der schmalen Gassen,
Der Domherrn und der Fischerleut,
Auf krummen wölbigen Terrassen
Von Lichtopalen überstreut.
Das Haff schlurft träge in den Rohren.
Der Kahn liegt auf den Wellen breit.
Uns ging der Sinn für Zeit verloren;
Wir segeln ostwärts frei von Zeit.

The heavens are driving silvery balls
Full of the purest light through the waters.
Deftly we reef the grey sails
And Frauenburg remains behind us:
The fairy-tale city of narrow streets,
Of cathedral canons and of fisher-folk,
Upon crooked, arched terraces
Strewn with opals of light.
The lagoon scuffles lazily in the reeds.
The boat lies upon the wide waves.
We have lost the concept of time;
We sail eastward, free of time.
