by Arthur Heinrich Wilhelm Fitger (1840 - 1909)

Da droben auf dem Berge
Language: German (Deutsch)
Da droben auf dem Berge steht
Ein Schloss von Marmelstein;
Vom Turm das bunte Banner weht,
Wie stolz! im Sonnenschein;
Bei Tage Lust und Prunk und Pracht,
Doch Graun! o Graun der Mitternacht!

Um Mitternacht, wenn alles schweigt,
Wenn Saal und Halle leer,
Welch feuchter Hauch des Grabes streicht
Den finster Gang daher?
Und markerkältend - welch ein Ton?
O, still, und rede nicht davon.

Zieh nicht ins Schloss, hellaugig Kind,
Ich rat' es, sei gewarnt;
Zu Eis dein warmes Blut gerinnt,
Wenn dich der Spuck umgarnt.
Hellaugig Kind, ich rat es dir:
Du kennst mich nicht; lass ob von mir.
