by (Karl) Ludwig Pfau (1821 - 1894)

Als ich in dem Bettlein lag
Language: German (Deutsch)
Als ich in dem Bettlein lag,
Ging mein Herze Schlag aus Schlag,
Wollte nicht zu Ruhe gehen.
Armes Herz! was willst du mehr?
Sieh'! du liebst ihn gar zu sehr,
Und du willst dir's nicht gestehen.

Ist die treue Nacht gekommen,
Hat mein armes Herz genommen,
Wie ein Mütterlein ihr Kind!
Wie das Kindlein in der Wiegen
Das nicht schlafen kann und liegen,
Nahm sie's aus den Arm geschwind.

Neige dich, du falscher Tag!
Daß ich ruhn und schlafen mag.
Komm' hernieder voll Erbarmen,
Schöne Himmelskönigin!
Komm' o Nacht! du Trösterin,
Gute Mutter aller Armen!
