by Jens Peter Jacobsen (1847 - 1885)
Translation by Frida Schanz (1859 - 1944)

Der Page
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Danish (Dansk)
Von des Turmes Zinnenrand
Sah der Page nieder,
Starrte finster übers Land,
Sann auf Liebeslieder.

Fing von Stern und Rosenwang
Stolpernd an zu stammeln,
Suchte mühsam Klang zu Klang,
Reim zu Reim zu sammeln.

Klirrte mit dem Speer im Zorn
Hob in hellem Rasen
An den Mund sein blankes Horn
Und begann zu blasen.

Und zu Lust und Ohrenschmaus
Für Gesell und Ferge
Blies er seine Liebe aus
über alle Berge.
