by Josef Julius Wecksell (1838 - 1907)

Fågeln
Language: Swedish (Svenska)
Där sitter en liten fågel
på hafvets vilda strand.
Långt borta uppgår solen
i gyllenen morgonland.

Där vinkar emellan rosor
en port af rubiner och gull.
Det växer i fågelns hjärta
en lust så längtansfull.

Han flyger mot morgon rodnan,
skön vinkar dess purpurkust;
han flaxar med svaga vingar,
han sjunger med mäktig lust.

Allt längre, allt längre han ilar,
han skådar bakom sig ej mer,
tills hvart han vänder blicken
blott öde vatten han ser.

Han flyger tills vingen brister,
han sjunker i böljonde haf,
och aftonen ler i rosor
och stjärnan i guld på hans graf.
