La prière est bien loin du ciel, faite des plaines
Où pour le vert des près on fuit l'azur du ciel,
Les étoiles en fleurs pour d'humbles marjolaines,
Et les rayons divins pour les rayons du miel.

La prière est moins loin du ciel, dite des pentes.
La pâquerette éclot des astres faits pour nous.
Les génuflexions sont à peine tombantes,
Car la terre est déjà plus proche des genoux.

La prière est plus près du ciel, chantée aux cimes,
L'aurore y met son rose, un lac son tendre bleu,
Et la candide neige, en ses blancheurs sublimes,
Lui tisse un vêtement moins indigne de Dieu.
