by Ma-Huang-Tschung
Translation by Hans Bethge (1876 - 1946)

Der Verschmähte
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Chinese (中文)
Von Birnbaumblüten einen Kranz
Legt ich der Herrlichen vors Fenster
In einer Mondnacht im April.

Ich sang ein Lied von großer Sehnsucht
Zur selben Nacht auf meiner Laute
Vor ihrem Haus mit süßem Klang.

Am andern Tage trug die Schöne
An ihrem Busen rote Nelken,
Die wuchsen auf des Nachbars Beet.

Ich habe mich in meine Wohnung
Verkrochen, und ich weinte lange,
Warum hat sie mich so betrübt?

Ich fluche allen Nelkenblüten,
Ich liege schlaflos in den Nächten,
Zerschellt hab ich mein Saitenspiel.
