Zieht mich der Sehnsucht Zauberband,
Mit jeder Wolke, jedem Stern,
Grüß ich mein schönes Vaterland.

Ich zog, geführt von süßer Lust,
Aus meines Vaterhauses Ruh,
Und Alles rief aus voller Brust,
Ein ernstes Lebewohl mir zu.

Ihr Wolken hoch im Aetherraum,
Euch folgt mit Schmerz und Lust mein Blick,
Und wiegt mich auch des Glückes Traum,
Ich denke immer doch zurück!

To the homeland of tears, lovely and distant,
The magical bond of yearning draws me,
With every cloud, every star
I greet my lovely fatherland.

I travelled, led by sweet desire,
Away from the peace of my father's house,
And from out of a full bosom everything
Called out a solemn farewell to me.

Ye clouds, high the aethereal realm,
My gaze follows you with pain and joy,
And though I am lulled by the dream of joy,
My thoughts nevertheless always go back there!
