by Wilhelm Ruess (1814 - 1879)

Am Grabe
Language: German (Deutsch)
Er war uns treu ergeben
In Freude und in Schmerz ,
Er barg ein schönes Leben
In seinem treuen Herz.

In Frühlings schönster Blüte
Hat ihn geknickt der Sturm,
Treu innigem Gemüte
Nagt an der Brust der Wurm.

So vieles liess er hoffen,
Es lacht' die Welt so schön,
Nun hat der Pfeil getroffen,
Die Kraft versengt der Föhn.

Schlaf wohl in kühler Erde,
Du gingst in Frieden hin,
Erfuhrst nicht die Beschwerden
In Sommers wildem Glüh'n.

Von Blüten reich umgeben
Schliefst du, die Blüte, ein,
Zum reichen, wahren Leben
In unsrer Väter Reih'n.

Wir aber treu dir schenken
Treu' Liebe auch in's Grab,
Als innigstes Gedenken,
Dann winkt's auch uns hinab.

So ruhe süss in Frieden,
Da uns das Leben lacht,
Doch jenseits wie hienieden
Eint uns des Geistes Macht.
