Sommer ward alt und müd, Läßt sinken die grausamen Hände, Blickt leer übers Land. Es ist nun zu Ende, Er hat seine Feuer versprüht, Seine Blumen verbrannt. So geht es allen. Am Ende Blicken wir müd zurück, Hauchen fröstelnd in leere Hände, Zweifeln, ob je ein Glück, Je eine Tat gewesen. Weit liegt unser Leben zurück, Blaß wie Märchen, die wir gelesen. Einst hat Sommer den Frühling erschlagen, Hat sich jünger und stärker gewußt. Nun nickt er und lacht. In diesen Tagen Sinnt er auf eine ganz neue Lust: Nichts mehr wollen, allem entsagen, Hinsinken und die blassen Hände dem kalten Tode lassen, Nichts mehr hören noch sehen, Einschlafen . . . erlöschen . . . vergehen . . .

L’estiu ha esdevingut vell i cansat, deixa caure les seves ferotges mans, esguarda buit de sentit damunt la terra. Ara és a la seva fi, ha espargit el seu foc, ha abrusat les seves flors. Així s’esdevé per a tothom. Al final esguardem cansats enrere, tremolant de fred, bufem en mans buides, dubtem de si mai hi ha hagut una felicitat, si mai una feta. La nostra vida rau lluny en el passat, somorta, com rondalles que un cop vàrem llegir. Un dia l’estiu va occir la primavera, es creia més jove i més fort, ara assenteix i riu. En aquests dies pensa en tot un nou gaudi: no desitjar res més, renunciat a tot, esvanir-se i deixar les seves pàl·lides mans a la freda mort, no sentir ni veure res més, adormir-se... extingir-se... morir...
