Die scheidende Braut
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
So leb' denn wohl du stilles Haus!
Ich werd' auf immer von dir scheiden!
Zieh' auch beglückt ich aus dir hinaus
Verlass' ich meiner Jugend Freuden!
Hab' oft geträumt an der Eltern Brust!
Mit frohem Herzen gejauchzt in Lust!
In harmloser Unschuld Spiel!

Ach! Nur beÿ ihm find' ich mein Heimath-Haus!

Note: Josephine Lang wrote her own text and this text changed somewhat over the course of the three autographs of this song. The text given here is from the final version.

The departing bride
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
So farewell then, you quiet house!
I shall be leaving your forever!
Even though I leave you happily,
I also leave the site of my youth's joys!
I often dreamt on my parents' bosom!
Rejoiced happily with a glad heart!
In the harmless play of innocence!
Oh I had joys a-many!

Yet I do not wish to look backward!
For before me there shines a beautiful, dear light!
I do not leave alone,
For I have a loving, faithful heart out there!
As faithful and warm as my parents' bosom
I shall find [out] there the joys of heaven!
For only with him am I at home!
Ah, only with him do I find the site of my homeland.
