Fischlein in christallner Fluth
An dem Ufer so sanft sich ruht.
Du kühlest dich im hellen Schaum,
Du athmest Wollust im weiten Raum[.]
Vögelein mit dem bunten Schein
Schwingst dich durch den grünen Hain
Belebest ihn durch Liederklang.
Dir lauscht das Herz so wonnebang.
Blümlein auf der schönen Au,
Schmückt dich ein so freundlich Blau.
Verborgen hauchst du süßen Duft
Laue weht um dich die Luft.
Natur erglänzt in neuer Pracht,
Im Busen nur bleibt tiefe Nacht,
Kraft und Wille dem Leiden nicht mehr!
Ach Friede, Friede er nie mehr kehrt.

Melancholy
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Little fish in the crystal-clear water
Rests so softly near the banks.
You cool yourself in the bright foam,
You breathe delight in the wide expanse[.]
Little bird with the colourful radiant plumage[,]
You swing yourself through the green grove[.]
You make it come alive with the sound of your songs.
My heart listens to you with such anxious joy.
Little flower upon the lovely meadow,
You are bedecked with such a friendly blue.
Secretly you breathe out a sweet scent[,]
The breeze blows balmily about you.
Nature comes aglow in new glory,
Only in my bosom it remains deep night,
No more power and determination to suffering!
Ah, peace, peace shall never return [to me].
