Comme un éclair
Language: French (Français)
Our translations:  ENG

Note: the modern spelling of "flateuse" is "flatteuse" (lines 1-1 and 2-1)

Like a flash of lightning
Language: English  after the French (Français)
Like a flash of lightning, flattering hope
shines before my eyes and seems to flit about;
peace and self-assurance are reborn within me.
I no longer see the shadow of danger;
deceptive peace, alas, vain self-assurance,
like a fickle flash of lightning soon flies away
and hope is extinguished
and I see again danger's image.

Like a flash of lightning, flattering hope
shines before my eyes and seems to flit about;
in order to catch her my heart rushes forward;
she flees like a fickle dream.

Like a flash of lightning,...
