Nichts Schwerer's giebt es auf der Welt 
Als von der Liebsten scheiden! 

Scon steh' ich auf des Berges Rand, 
Und kann den Blick nicht wenden --
Ein Gruß noch dem geliebten Land,
Dann will den Schmerz ich enden.

Die Sonne sinkt -- der Nebel fällt -- 
Die Abendwinde wehen --
Leb wohl du, meine ganze Welt!
