À quoi bon te voiler durant que j'ai des yeux ?
Rien ne m'est inconnu de ton mortel visage
Ni des splendeurs du fruit que, dans sa fleur sauvage,
Le soleil a mûri pour la moisson des cieux.

De ta forme terrestre épiant le mirage
Sous les dormantes eaux des bois silencieux,
D'un immuable aspect j'ai conçu ton image
Et dressé, sous mon front, ton corps harmonieux.

Je sais la pourpre errante aux contours de ta bouche
Où mes désirs jamais ne seront apaisés ;
Mais je maudis tout bas la puissance farouche

Qui m'a fait deviner la saveur des baisers
Et suspend, sans pitié de mes ardentes fièvres,
Cette vendange amére au-dessus de mes lèvres !
