Op 't wilde golven

Op 't wilde golven van mijn boezem gaat
de deining van mijn donkere gedachten,
onstuimig zwellend in dees nacht van haat
en razernij, met ongekende krachten,

en steigerend ten hemel op, al 't kwaad
hem tegenloeiend, dat ze aan mij volbrachten,
al wat mijn ziel met grimmige onmacht slaat
en naamloos leed dat niemand zal verzachten.

En lijk de storm, aan 't toppunt van zijn kracht,
zijn duizend stemmen breekt in eenen, éénen
oneindgen kreet van woede en toch weer zacht

gaat strijken en aan 't strand in kreunend stenen
uitsterven, zink ik neer, uit al die kracht,
in hopeloos gebed en machtloos weenen.
