Es [nahte]1 im lichten Blüthenkleid
Der Frühling mit sanftem Wehen;
Da sah ich in holder Lieblichkeit
Die Maienrose erstehen.

Doch brausend stürmte der Nord daher
Und raubte mit eisigem Hauche
Die Blüthen, und trug sie in's weite Meer,
Ach ferne dem Baum und dem Strauche.

Wohl schwebt' aufs Neue im Liebesblick
Der Frühling nieder den Auen;
Und gab die Blüthen im Hauch zurück.
Die Rose -- war nimmer zu schauen.
