by Gotfred Benjamin Rode (1830 - 1878)

Aftenrøden skær og fin
Language: Danish (Dansk)
Aftenrøden skær og fin
slukkes ud, mens Klokker ringe,
Fuglen standser træt sin Vinge,
Møllen standser også sin.

Hvert et dyr nu søger hjem
Eller seng på marken reder;
Snart sig nattens mørke breder
Som et tæppe over dem.

Mennesket sig lægger ned,
Allersidst med kind på pude,
Og der inde som der ude
Har den hele verden fred.

Fader! Du har øje haft
Med de timer, som bortile!
Giv du mig i søvnens hvile
Til hver ærlig stræben kraft.

Men hver syndig id, du ser
Frem i sjælen sig at vove,
Lad fra denne nat du sove,
Så den vågner aldrig mer.

Snart, o Herre! Slumrer jeg,
Stjernen lyser i det høje;
Stjernen er dit Faderøje,
Det vil våge over mig!
