Serenade aus Marino Faliero

Serenade
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
When of the dull round of life thou art weary, step into a Gondol, a maiden on thy arm, heed neither palace nor bridges ne'er so aery, shelter thy treasure, and guard her from harm. Scarcely a wave stirs the still glassy road, narrow and secret, that dark abode, there shines no sun, only Love is our light, and only tears shed for joy the sight! Ah not forever wilt thou be sixteen, that morning hue from thy fair cheek will fly, the years will snatch thy tresses' raven sheen, thou'lt not have always one who loves as I!
From a Bruch score.
