by Jean-François de Saint-Lambert (1716 - 1803)
Translation by Anonymous / Unidentified Author

An einen Schmetterling
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the French (Français)
Flatt're, leichter Schmetterling,
hin und her im Hauch der Lüfte,
d'rein der Frühling sanft umfing
seiner Blumen Glanz und Düfte.

Kaum verliebt, doch sehr galant,
leicht zu rufen, schwer zu halten,
eilst du nach der Rose Rand,
deren Reize sich entfalten.

Küssest sie und flatterst fort,
mit der andern auch zu kosen;
so verrinnt dein Dasein dort
unter den koketten Rosen.

Und ich hätt' es längst mit Lust
diesem Beispiel nachgetrieben,
lebte nicht in meiner Brust
fest und treu ein einzig Lieben.
