by Theodor Şerbănescu (1839 - 1901)
Translation by Elisabeth Pauline Ottilie Luise zu Wied, Prinzessin (1843 - 1916), as Carmen Sylva

Du schaust mich an
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Romanian (Română)
Thränenumflort schaust du mich an,
Klagst, du seist in Lieb' versunken,
Träumend in dein Auge dann
Blick' ich liebesfroh, betrunken.

Wie aus duft'gem Blumenkleid
Bienchen Honig eilt zu saugen,
Trink' ich mir Glückseligkeit
Aus den Thränen deiner Augen.

Wenn der Himmel weint, erwacht
Freuderfüllt das Gras im Regen,
Und bei deinen Thränen lacht
Mir der Seele Lust entgegen.

Confirmed with Rumänische Dichtungen. Deutsch von Carmen Sylva. Mit Beiträgen von Mite Kremnitz, Dritte Auflage, Bonn, Verlag von Emil Strauß, 1889, page 323.
