by Anne Grant (1755 - 1838)

New Year's night (Nos Galan)
Language: English
Loud, how loud the north wind blowing,
Thick, how thick the dark clouds snowing,
Stars all hid in sable cov'ring,
Ghosts amid the darkness hov'ring
Keep our trembling hearts in awe.

Hope exulting, bounty cheering,
Hail the infant year appearing,
While the plenteous horn is flowing,
See how ev'ry cheek is glowing.
Fal la la la la la la.

Music's notes now sweetly swelling,
Tales of love are softly telling,
Drowning sorrow, blinding reason,
Welcome in the new-born season.
Fal la la la la la la.
