by Friedrich Martin von Bodenstedt (1819 - 1892)

Gern schau ich in's dunkle Auge dir
Language: German (Deutsch)
Gern schau ich in's dunkle Auge dir,
Mit den langen, seidnen Wimpern drauf -
Aus solches Auges Nacht ging mir
Einst hell der Tag der Liebe auf.

Todt ist sie lange, kalt und todt -
Gebrochen ist der Zauberring,
Drin glühend mir das Morgenroth
Des Herzens auf- und unterging.

Doch du bist blühend, frisch und jung,
Kennst noch den Gram des Lebens nicht -
Und jungen Glücks Erinnerung
Lacht mir aus deinem Angesicht.

Drum schau ich so gern in's Auge dir,
Mit den langen seidnen Wimpern drauf:
Aus solchen Auges Nacht ging mir
Einst hell der Tag der Liebe auf.
