by Adolf Friedrich, Graf von Schack (1815 - 1894)

Schmerz, der keinen Namen kennt
Language: German (Deutsch)
Schmerz, der keinen Namen kennt,
Aber allempfunden
Durch das Herz der Wesen brennt
In Myriaden Wunden;

Mächt'ger, welchem unbewußt
Schon die zarten Kleinen,
Saugend an der Mutter Brust,
Ihre Thränen weinen;

Den der Tag, der junge, haucht
In den Morgenwinden,
Und in den zurückgetaucht
Seine Strahlen schwinden;

Der in jedem Glockenschlag,
Wie mit eh'rnem Hammer,
Du das Herz, das schon zerbrach,
Brichst durch neuen Jammer:

O, wird ewig deine Macht,
Wird sie ewig währen
Und noch in der Grabesnacht
Unsern Schlummer stören?
