by Mirzə Şəfi Vazeh (1794 - 1852)
Translation by Friedrich Martin von Bodenstedt (1819 - 1892)

Wähne niemand sich den Weisen
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Azerbaijani (Azərbaycan dili)
Wähne niemand sich den Weisen
Im Genuß des Weins vergleichbar;
Denn was wir im Trunke preisen,
Bleibt den Toren unerreichbar!

Durch den Wein zum Blumenbeet
Wird die Phantasie verwandelt,
Drin der Odem Gottes weht,
Drin der Geist der Schönheit wandelt.

Blumen blühen uns zu Füßen,
Uns zu Häupten glühen Sterne --
Jene aus der Nähe grüßen,
Diese grüßen aus der Ferne!

Welch ein liebliches Gewimmel!
Freude blüht auf jedem Schritt mir --
Und den ganzen Sternenhimmel
Samt den Blumen trag' ich mit mir!
